OOC 📌 🔒 Netiquette

Public
While not strictly rules, Netiquette should be considered guidelines as to the kind of behaviour that is expected from Spellcraft University of Aotearoa members. Breaches of Netiquette may be considered breaches of the rules under certain circumstances, and members are expected to keep these points in mind at all times.  These guidelines are focused on OOC behaviour, but they apply to both IC and OOC areas of the forum.

Kindness First
In all circumstances, you are encouraged to approach your fellow board members with kindness and friendliness. This includes being welcoming and helpful to new members, being considerate of those with English as a second language, and allowing others to enjoy things that may not necessarily be your cup of tea.

Stay on Topic!
Forums have multiple threads for a reason - if two characters are in the library working on their essays, that might not be the best place to post about your character's shift at the cafe across town. There's nothing wrong with taking things in unexpected directions as long as everyone is on board, but if what you want to write is completely inconsistent with the thread you're looking at, it's time to start a new thread of your own!

Avoid Double-Posting
We know that sometimes you'll hit the post button, and then figure out the perfect way to end your sentence. Luckily, we have an edit button! There are going to be circumstances where a double-post is unavoidable, but generally speaking 99% of the time it's going to be more appropriate to edit your previous post instead.

Don't Spam
Making multiple posts in a row in the same thread and posts wholly unrelated to the topic of a thread are both considered spam, and are rude to other users. Please stay on topic, and give others a chance to participate in the thread before you post again. Double-posting to bump a thread is considered spam, and these posts will be removed.

Post in English
While we're thrilled to have members from all around the world, Spellcraft University of Aotearoa is an English-language forum. Posts made in other languages are difficult/impossible for staff to moderate properly, and could potentially lead to unsafe situations on the forum that we aren't able to help with. Small snippets of other languages are welcome as long as a translation is provided, but long posts made entirely in other languages without translation are off limits. The exception is the use of common knowledge reo Māori phrases, outlined in our handy Te Reo Māori Phrasebook.

Don't Expect Sharing
Nobody online owes you personal information about their real life OOC - everyone is entitled to whatever level of internet anonymity makes them feel safe. While other forum members may choose to share information like their name, age, career, sexuality, etc. this is a personal choice, and it is never appropriate to request this information if it is not freely given.
